Two hurt in crash at I-40 and Tramway

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — One person was critically injured after a vehicle crashed off of Interstate 40 and on to Tramway Boulevard in northeast Albuquerque.

KOB 4 video showed part of the vehicle destroyed on the side of the westbound I-40 bridge over Tramway, another part dangling over the bridge and another part resting on Tramway.

Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded Tuesday at around 11:17 a.m. to a “significant motor vehicle collision.” They found a truck, towing a travel trailer, went off the I-40 bridge and crashed onto Tramway.

Two people were in the vehicle, including one person with critical injuries.

“Due to the severity and amount of damage sustained in the accident, one patient needed to be extricate and one self-extricated,” AFR stated.

One person went to the hospital. It is unknown what caused the crash. The Albuquerque Police Department is investigating.

According to the New Mexico Department of Transportation, the crash closed the right lane of westbound I-40 at Tramway and caused delays.

The Tramway crash harkened back to last week when a semi-truck slid off of Interstate 25 and down an embankment near Avenida Cesar Chavez, leaving the trailer dangling over part of the freeway.
